The global economy runs on projects—a staggering $48 trillion in value is executed annually across every industry. Yet, this critical engine of human progress is fundamentally broken. According to market analysis, approximately $5 trillion is wasted due to poor project performance, amounting to trillions in lost value, squandered resources, and delayed innovation every year. The root cause is not a failure of logistics, but a failure to understand the most complex variable: human decision-making.
The Project Science Institute is being established to solve this. Our primary mission is to build Project Alpha, a planetary-scale AI engine designed to forge the science of project execution. However, in solving this, we will achieve something far greater: the creation of a foundational, causal model of human endeavor. This engine will serve as a Rosetta Stone for human collaboration, unlocking secondary applications across AI alignment, economics, national security, and corporate strategy.
This is a deep research initiative to build a first-of-its-kind neuro-symbolic AI engine that combines deep learning with causal reasoning. We propose a foundational partnership to tackle a series of engineering grand challenges that require a fully-contingent budget of approximately $136 million over four years. By leveraging the full power of the AWS ecosystem, we will not only solve the $48 trillion project problem but also create a core scientific asset that will "feed all AI models," making them safer, more capable, and more aligned with human values. This is a challenge on the scale of AlphaFold, applied to the social and economic sciences, and it requires a partner ready to build the future of cognitive infrastructure.
The initial application and commercial engine for Project Alpha is the project economy.
Even a 1% improvement in project efficiency driven by our models would create $480 billion in annual economic value.
The research engine will directly power a suite of foundational technologies and establish a new global standard, creating a self-sustaining financial model with a multi-billion dollar valuation potential.
